“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat…”  Chapter 25 of Matthew’s gospel gives us some very specific illustrations of what it looks like to love Jesus, one of which is to feed those who are hungry.  When we do that, it’s just like feeding Jesus.  Sadly, there are far too many of our neighbors here in eastern Iowa who go to bed hungry each night.

That’s why we’re once again partnering with you on the Big Help for Hunger, trying to help stock the shelves at the area food pantries in Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, and Dubuque.  When you participate by bringing non-perishable food items to one of our drop-off locations, YOU are feeding Jesus!  And what a great example you set for your kids, when you participate as a family in giving to the less fortunate.

You may have noticed a “theme” over the past year…as we present projects like sending Bibles into prisons, sending encouragement cards to kids in the hospital, or collecting items for new moms at the local pregnancy centers.  We are giving you opportunities to serve Jesus by serving others.  This will continue into the new year, as we look for more ways to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, visit the prisoners, look after the sick, and invite in the stranger.

Life 101.9 is involved in a lot of activities over the course of a year, such as concerts, events, contests, and much more.  But to me, these giving projects we do together with you are the most important.  I believe they are the clearest testimony to those around us of the unconditional love of God.

So please participate in the next two Big Help for Hunger drop-off days… this coming Thursday in Dubuque, and the following Thursday in Waterloo.  And if you have any ideas for future giving projects, we’d love to hear them.   Thanks for serving God together with us!

Yours in Christ,
Doug Smith
