Do you remember seeing Santa for the first time? If you were like me, you were probably smiling from ear to ear after hearing his offer!  As children, we learned that a jolly elf in a red suit would bring all the children of the world free toys. All we had to do to get something from his magic bag was keep our naughtiness to a minimum.

Jesus makes an offer this season too. But the two are very different. Santa’s offer is based on our goodness; Jesus’ is based on his. Yours doesn’t matter.

There’s no question about it. Jesus’ offer of grace is far better than Santa’s promise of gifts. Even when we’re not so good, his goodness in Christ gets us the whole enchilada of grace. No wonder we call it Good News!

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:11
