This week, I am reminded of the 1993 movie “Groundhog Day.” In this cult classic, a TV news reporter played by Bill Murray, inspires us to believe that though we are all creatures of habit, we can choose to change. Like the song says, we can change who we are. We can live intentionally.
One of the things I’d like to change about myself is to be a more compassionate person and look for ways to reach out to those who need help. I guess that’s why I’m so excited about The Big Help for Winter Warmth.
This Life 101.9 promotion is an opportunity for all of us to partner with one of 14 homeless shelters in our area and provide a warm bed for someone during these cold days of winter. You can sponsor one night for just $15, or sponsor as many nights as you are able. Many of our listeners have already responded by sponsoring multiple nights. I’ve made my gift. Have you made yours yet?
If you would like to help those who need it most, click here and intentionally choose to help those who really need it. Better yet, start with your most generous gift, and then make a call to volunteer your time at an organization that provides food and shelter for the homeless in your city or county. The experience will change you. I promise.
As Jesus said, ““The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40 Caring for the poor is intentional living at it’s best. Think of it as showing some extra love during this month that we dedicate to “love.”
And speaking of love, we want to give you some love by inviting you to our movie matinee on either of the next two Fridays – either February 2nd or 9th. You’ll come around 1pm*, let us give you a tour of our newly remodeled facility. then we’ll show the movie “The Case for Christ” based on the best selling book by Lee Stroebel. But because space is limited, you need to RSVP by simply hitting “reply” to this email and letting me know that you are coming. We want to have time to prep the “theatre” in advance. We will be serving popcorn and pop during the movie.
*We will also have an evening showing at 7pm on Friday, February 9th for those who can’t make a matinee.
Finally, as a Valentine greeting of sorts, I want you to know how much I appreciate you. It’s your faithful stewardship that allows this radio station to be a beacon of encouragement to share God’s love every single day of the year. Some people are reminded of his love through a song that they hear; some feel his love because an unknown “friend” paid for a bed so they could come in out of the cold and sleep where it’s warm. No matter what the season or the occasion, I hope you can “feel the love” from all of us at Life 101.9.
And during this Valentine’s season, may you be blessed by His love for you above all else.
PS: I almost forgot. Special greetings to you from Punxsutawnie Phil!
