A truly lasting legacy is only found in the footprint of one with genuine humility and razor-like focus. Such was the life of Rev. Billy Graham, who went home to be with Jesus on February 21st at the age of 99.
Most will know him as the greatest evangelist of our time but he was also the second president of Northwestern College and the visionary behind Life 101.9 and the other radio stations in the Northwestern Media Group.
Dr. Alan Cureton, President of Northwestern sent out this email to each of us just hours after his passing:
Dear UNW community,
As you may have heard by now, today we received word that the second president of UNW died this morning surrounded by several members of his family at the age of 99. Dr. Billy Graham had an incredible calling upon his life. The Lord used him and his ministry to reach millions of people with the Good News of Jesus Christ. His influence and footprint covered the globe. He was a man of humility, character, and integrity. He was, as CNN posted today, “America’s pastor.”
I will be sending a letter to the Graham family on behalf the entire UNW community expressing our condolences, prayers, and sorrow. But, I will also inform them that we, as a community, are rejoicing in his new life and grateful for the impact he had upon this institution.
Please join me in prayer for the entire Graham family as they lay to rest their father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
It is a sad time but as Dr. Cureton has reminded us, it is also also one of profound rejoicing. For this man has at last seen the face of the One of whom he often spoke. Welcome Home Billy! Well done!
Something to think about.
