I would like to thank you personally for the generosity you displayed during the Big Help for Winter Warmth campaign!  Over $20,000 was given to help support the eastern Iowa shelters that provide life-saving warmth during this cold winter.  Your gifts translate to 1,334 nights that you made possible!  The area shelters are also grateful to you for your participation.  They’ve been stretched to the limit to provide for the people who’ve shown up at their doors.

Speaking of the area shelters, I would like to suggest that you continue to give regularly and generously to help them.  Our campaign is over, but their needs are year-round.  I can’t imagine the sense of hopelessness that people must feel when circumstances force them out on the street.  For them, shelters are a light in the storm.  Please continue to help them reach out and help “the least of these.”

On another topic, last week we heard the news that Rev. Billy Graham is now home with the Lord.  I don’t know if you’re aware of it, but he played a role in this radio ministry.  He was the president of our parent organization, the University of Northwestern – St. Paul (then known as Northwestern College), back in the late 1940’s.  It was under his leadership that KTIS, the first station in our network, came on the air back in 1949.

Of course, we all know how his ministry took him on to worldwide fame and influence.  Countless numbers became Christians because of his preaching.  There are so many things we can learn from his example, such as financial integrity, personal humility, and a passion for Jesus.  We probably won’t see another like him on the national stage, but we can be thankful for Rev. Graham and his dedication to the ministry.

Thank you again for your participation in the ministry of Life 101.9, and have a great month of March!

Yours in Christ,
Doug Smith
Station Manager
