I want to share two important “behind the scenes” updates with you this month.

First, the Northwestern Media network of stations is growing!  As you know, Life 101.9 is part of a network of stations in eight cities, headquartered at the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, MN.  Two of those stations have been added since 2003… Des Moines and Kansas City.  Now, we are expanding again… to Omaha!  Just a few weeks from now, our network will purchase KGBI-FM, which has been serving the Omaha/Lincoln/Council Bluffs area for many decades with Christian programming.  The current owner put it up for sale, and we wanted to buy it so that we can continue their long tradition of providing God-honoring and life-changing music.

How does Northwestern Media come up with the money to buy new stations?  The old-fashioned way:  we save up.  Every year, we try to set aside some of the money given by listeners across the network in a “Growth Fund”.  This enables us to take advantage of opportunities when they come up, like this one in Omaha.  We don’t go deeply into debt to expand our network, nor do we buy stations just for the sake of buying stations.  We want to be strategic about when and where we expand, so that when we enter a new community, we are there for the long term.

Your prayers for this new ministry are much appreciated.  We are currently hiring staff, and we plan to be on the air later this year.

The second update is a more precise report for you on how we ended our fiscal year.  Our goal was $1.55 million for the 12 months that ended on June 30, 2018.  We ended up receiving $1,538,000, so we were only $12,000 short of our goal!  That is truly amazing and we thank God for his provision, and we thank you for responding so generously.  The message of God’s unconditional love will continue to radiate throughout eastern Iowa on Life 101.9, thanks to you!

Yours in Christ,
Doug Smith
Station Manager
