I don’t remember exactly how old I was, but the memory is still vivid. Our family sitting around the Thanksgiving table at my Grandparents home…and I was sitting at the “grown-ups” table for the first time. After years and years of being relegated to the kids table, I had finally arrived. It was a bit of a right of passage I guess. While I can’t say for sure, I probably looked down towards my cousins still sitting at the card table at the far end of the living room and thought a bit more highly of myself than I should have. But one thing I can say for sure, Thanksgiving dinner never tasted so good.
Having a place at the table, a place to belong is so important in our lives. Knowing that we are valued and loved for who we are can make all the difference. And today I come to you with good news…no matter what this year has thrown at you or what your family situation looks like, there is room at the table for you.
The reality of the situation is that none of us are worthy. The Bible reminds us in the book of Romans that all of us have sinned and fallen short of what God wants for us. That’s the bad news. The good news is that God loves you and me so much that He made a way to restore our relationship when He sent Jesus to pay the price for our sins. What was a broken relationship with no chance of reconciliation became a restored relationship now and eternity together in Heaven. And that, my friend, is good news!
All of us at Life 101.9 hope and pray that you enjoy a Thanksgiving filled with reminders of the many ways God has blessed all of us.
So pull up a chair and pass the green bean casserole. There’s a place at the table for you.
