I received an email just before the holidays that really stuck with me.  A friend was sharing how she was hoping to grow in 2019 and said that she wanted to be the kind of person who would allow the people she meets to “bump into Jesus.”  She is hoping to be the kind of person that reflects Jesus in such a way that friends and neighbors couldn’t help but see Him in her daily life.

Bump into Jesus.  Wow.

This is a time of year where goals or resolutions are common.  January brings with it hopes of dropping a few pounds or breaking bad habits and starting good ones.  What if you and I set a much larger and dare I say more important goal for 2019.  What if we made Jesus the focus this year?  What if our goal was to live our lives in such a way that the people we come into contact with each day would bump into Jesus.  From the line at the check-out at Fareway, to driving down 380 and across the University of Iowa campus, can you imagine the impact this would have on Eastern Iowa?

I love the picture we see in the Bible in Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  It is amazing to think that God’s plan for the world includes people like you and me.  He has given each of us a job to do!  The things he has given me to do are different from the things he has given you to do, and they are all important in the big picture.  God has placed you where you are right now for a reason!  Perhaps that reason is so someone can bump into Jesus.

Growing in your walk with the Lord is not easy.  Doing the things He has called us to is hard work!  The good news is He has promised to be with you each step of the way.  There are people all over Eastern Iowa who need to know that Jesus loves them.

You and I have the privilege of helping them bump into Jesus this year.

In Christ,
Matt Deane
