The fall 2011 events for Clean Up CR are over and the results are in.  During the four Clean Up CR events scheduled between September 17 and October 8, 482.93 tons of material were collected from Cedar Rapids residents.  Of the total amount collected, 318.9 tons of material, or 66%, was diverted from the landfill.  To get a sense of how much that is, the average male African Elephant weighs 5.5 tons, so together we kept 58 elephants worth of material out of the landfill.

The ½ price appliance drop-off event also had a good response.  On October 1, 2011 residents of Cedar Rapids brought 578 appliances to the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency to be recycled.  The City of Cedar Rapids sponsored the event by providing the other half of the $9.00 appliance drop-off fee.

The final fall Clean Up CR events included litter collections in Cedar Rapids Neighborhoods and along Interstate 380.  Together, 47 volunteers collected 70 bags of litter from the streets of Cedar Rapids.
