Two movies targeted for your family hit theaters this weekend. First, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters, which came out earlier this week. If you’re not familiar with the Percy Jackon, his character is based in Greek mythology. Percy himself is a demi-god or half god and half man, and he’s constantly dealing with a large group of gods.  While there are some good themes here on friendship and working together, similar to the Harry Potter series, you’ll need to make a determination as to whether the basis for the story is worth navigating with your family.  You can read a more complete review here.

The other film out this week is “Planes”.  This one’s based in the same universe as Pixar’s “Cars”.  It follows a little plane that dusts crops but wants to fly with the big guys in a race around the world. There are a lot of great messages in this film, like fair play, hard work, integrity and friendship. Despite a little bit of toilet humor, Bob still gave it 4 1/2 out of 5 for family friendliness.
