Her name could be Susan, or Jennifer or Rachel. But she’s out there and we’re looking for her.
Tired of the hopeless, tired lyrics of most other radio stations, she’s seeking something (or perhaps Someone.) In recent days, she’s been more concerned that life’s burdens feel just too heavy to carry and she feels so very alone.
One evening, pressing the scan button in her car radio, it stops at 101.9 and she wonders what the station is all about. Music she’s never heard before but music that speaks to her heart in ways she hasn’t experienced for years.
She listens for a few days on the way to work and over time, she finds a safe place of love and hope in her new favorite radio station. The lyrics of this new station call to remembrance days gone by as a little girl when life was simpler for her. Back then, her parents took her to church every week and the message told there week after week still resonates occasionally in the back of her mind though in recent years, she’s tried to suppress it.
In Sunday school she learned a song that she can still sing by heart.
“Jesus Love Me this I know. For the Bible Tells Me So.”
She feels his nearness as she whispers the words and this leads to singing the words to some of the music on Life 101.9; music that has now become familiar to her.
Susan is beginning to believe in a new and deeper way the hope of the Gospel that had been buried for so long. She’s now on a new journey where the burdens of life will not seem so weighty as she begins to understand that she’s not alone as she had once thought. She’s started a journey back to the place her heart tells her is home. It’s what she was made for. For the first time, Susan feels so alive and free. Joy replaces doubt and hope replaces fear.
If it wasn’t for the generosity of over 1700 faithful friends this week, we wouldn’t be able to participate together in this marvelous quest. Desperately Seeking Susan is what the Holy Spirit is all about in this hour and we feel humbled that Life 101.9 gets to play a role in what God is doing. Together you and I are teammates on the same team. Together, we’re playing for a cause that’s far greater than ourselves!
The Kingdom of God marches on and we have the privilege to participate in spreading the Word in song!
Thanks to those of you who get the vision of this radio ministry and demonstrated it this week with your faithful support.
We appreciate each one of you for making Fall Share 2013 such a wonderful success.
Something to think about.
