Have you ever seen that bumper sticker that says, “If I’d have known how much fun it was to have grand kids, I’d have had them first!”
Didn’t get that thirty years ago because I didn’t see how being a parent could be any more fun.
Now…I get it!!
Took my three year old granddaughter Selah Marie to see “Cloudy, With a Chance of Meatballs 2” yesterday. We had a blast. But I wish she didn’t eat so much popcorn. ūüôā
If you’re a grandparent and you’ve not done so before now, why not make the Summer of ’14 the time when you start being more intentional about spending time with each one? ¬†Listening to their little voices share their thoughts and looking at the world through their innocent and trusting eyes will make you feel 20 years younger – guaranteed!
Even if you are separated by miles that make it a challenge, if at all possible, do what you can to make it happen!
We only pass this way once and you have a chance to occupy a place in your grand kids lives that is unique and worth the time and effort.
I have four (two here and two in Kansas City) but I’m planning on spending time with each one in the weeks ahead. Marilyn and I raised five boys and a girl but are now doting on three granddaughters and a grand son. It’s wonderful!
And before I forget, here’s a shout out to Collins Road Theatres. They’ve been offering free kid flicks each summer for a while and it’s a great way to date your grandchild on a limited budget.¬† What a terrific idea! ¬†If you’d never been there, you’re missing out. Next week, they are showing “Turbo” about a snail who must have gotten Calcara genes when it comes to foot speed.
I have to admit, being a “Papa” is pretty fun.
Something to think about.
