The new school year is just around the corner, but some families in Eastern Iowa aren’t going to be able to afford school supplies for their kids.  In Black Hawk County and the surrounding area, the Back to School Project wants to help out, and they need help to get it done.

If you’re in need of school supplies for your child, signups are happening right now at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank – for children kindergarten through Middle School, through August 1st. You just need to provide the names and grades of the kids you want to register when you come.

If you’re able to help, the Back to School Project is in need of a lot of new school supplies. Ruth Orth says if you can find it on the school supply list you get from your school, they need it, including pencils, erasers, spiral notebooks and more.  You can drop off those supplies at a variety of locations around the Cedar Valley (just look for the donation boxes in businesses and stores you regularly visit) or bring them directly to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.

Ruth and I had a chance to talk about the Project recently, and you can listen to our conversation below.
