The new animated film “The Book of Life” (rated PG) follows the story of two men fighting for the affections of Maria, Joaquin the military leader and Monolo the sensitive bull fighter.  Both men will go to extraordinary lengths to win her love, with the entire story centered around the Mexican holiday the Day of the Dead, which is designed for people to pray for the dead.

There’s a lot of great things going for this movie including sacrifice, family, colorful images and puppet like characters.  But, the spiritual issues of the pagan traditions surrounding the Day of the Dead and the movie’s view on the afterlife may be harder to navigate with your kids. So Bob gave this one 3 out of 5 for family friendliness.  Listen to our talk below and check out the full review at the Plugged In website.
