All families have traditions. Some are big, some are small and some are just down right odd. Our family doesn’t have a ton of family traditions but there are a few that really stand out especially around the holidays.
Every Thanksgiving for as long as I can remember we’ve made our traditional Turkey Cookies. I can remember being a kid making these with my mom and then placing them at each place setting on the Thanksgiving table. They are nothing special. Just simple little candies put together. Nothing really home made about them. But they carry the weight of tradition. And that makes them special to me. If you’re looking for a fun activity or a new tradition here’s how to make the Turkey Cookies.
What you’ll need:
- Fudge Striped Cookies
- Caramels
- Chocolate Stars
- Candy Corn
- Chocolate Frosting
You’ll need one of each item to create a turkey.
Directions:
Imagine the chocolate frosting is your glue. All you have to do is glue the pieces together. Start with your base, the chocolate star, and add the body, a caramel.
Once you have the body, put frosting on the back of the caramel and add a cookie for the back of the turkey. Press firmly but not too hard or the cookie will break.
Now all you need is the beak. Add some frosting to one side of a piece of candy corn and place it on top of the caramel.
And you’re done! Simple but cute Turkey Cookies!
