For as long as I can remember I’ve been aware of God’s grace.
Did I scare you already? Many of us find the word “grace” intimidating because we don’t understand it. And honestly, we’ll never fully understand God’s grace. But don’t let that stop you from trying.
Grace: Free and unmerited favor of God.
I think the key part is free and unmerited. We’ve done nothing for it. Yet God pours out His grace on us continuously.
Recently I adopted a dog.
The sweetest thing in the universe. She tries so hard to do the right thing. But she’s a dog, a puppy at that, just over a year old. And at times she does something wrong.
After she’s done something wrong, she feels terrible, asks for forgiveness constantly until she feels like she’s fixed the situation.
Through all of this she’s taught me a huge lesson. Yes, I discipline her and correct her but I also strive to show her grace. She has not earned it. Has not paid for it. It’s unmerited grace.
I’ve been trying to use this as a reminder for myself. I do not have to earn God’s grace. I cannot earn it. It’s given to me freely. God’s grace is unending. Its free and unmerited.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
- In 2 Corinthians 12:9
To the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
- In Ephesians 1:6
So here’s your reminder. You have unmerited free favor from God. His grace is given to you freely. Its sufficient for you. Its more than enough. It’s unending grace.
