This week we celebrate an event of monumental importance.

Hint: It’s not the Final Four nor does it have anything to do with marshmallow chicks and chocolate bunnies.

Of course. This weekend we celebrate Easter – the real one – that happened over 2000 years ago.

But as I think about it, I’m starting to wonder if Easter should be more than just a “spring thing” celebrated one weekend each year. Doesn’t it deserve our attention, year ’round?

It’s certainly offers more to shout about than seasonal sporting events like the World Series in October, a Super Bowl in January or even “One Shining Moment” in March.

Think about it…The Resurrection is the only event in human history that will never lose it’s significance!

(Go back and read that last statement again.)

Listen, it’s fun to have a team to cheer for. As you can tell by the picture above, my wife Marilyn and I have our favorite teams, just like you. It’s just that Jesus’ defeat of death and hell by one supreme act of love is worth SHOUTING ABOUT! That’s just the way it is! There is nothing that compares.

(I mean when the trumpet sounds at the Second Coming, would I rather be found shouting “Jesus is Lord Forevermore!” or “Rock Chalk, Jayhawk?”)

I’m just sayin’.

Giving the Resurrection of Jesus Christ first priority in our lives is worth the effort (tho’ I don’t always practice what I preach.)  Remember that unlike sporting events, there are eternal benefits to Easter. Like peace with God, freedom from guilt and shame and guaranteed entrance into Heaven.

But wait, there’s more…

The Bible even declares that His glory becomes ours when we choose to trust Jesus with our lives. You might say, the glory of God “grows on us” with each passing day. 2 Cor. 3:18 says, “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Can we all just take a few minutes to stand up and cheer for Jesus with the enthusiasm that we have for our favorite team? (If you’re really excited, you can even do “The Wave!”)

Thank you.

The Final Four. Where four teams declare one champion in three days. Yet, it will all be faded glory a few months from now. On the other hand, Easter weekend in just three days declared Jesus to be our Champion forever! And the glory of His resurrection will never fade away.

So go ahead. You’ve been meaning to anyway. Give the Lord a shout!

And before I forget, I want to shout out to all of our friends who gave during Spring Share this past week. If that’s you, I want you to know that we really appreciate it and remember that your support, like Easter, has eternal impact because you are investing in changed lives. Because of faithful friends like you, we’ll can continue to remind others of God’s love.

Blessings to you and have a joyous Easter Celebration!
