The more I read the Bible, the more I see that while the time and locations are different, the circumstances people found themselves in then are really the same ones we find ourselves in today.
As we make our way through these final few days before Christmas, you may find yourself a little stressed out with a huge list of things yet to be done. If I’m honest, I’m right there with you! But take a few minutes with me and think about that first Christmas. Mary and Joseph may have been a little on the anxious side as well. Mary was very pregnant, and because the census that was being taken, they had to travel to Bethlehem. Not the best time for a road trip! Add to that the fact that when they arrived, there was no place for them to stay.
The more things change, the more things stay the same. It can be so easy to let the numerous events and to-do lists this time of year distract us from what’s really important – celebrating the true meaning of the Christmas season. We give gifts as a symbol of the amazing gift that was given to us when God sent Jesus here to Earth to live a perfect life and die on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for our sins.
Here at Life 101.9, we have the amazing privilege of sharing this “good news of great joy” with Eastern Iowa every day. The good news that no matter who you are or what you have done, God loves you and wants to have a relationship with you. The good news that no matter what you might be facing today, because of God’s great love we have the hope of eternal joy in Heaven.
My prayer for you this Christmas is that even during the business of season you have time to reflect on God’s amazing love for us. He gave us the greatest gift of all.
