What if you were to get a daily check up from your doctor just to make sure that everything was functioning properly and that you would be prepared physically for any challenge the day would bring?

Sounds kind of silly and probably more than just a little bit of overkill. Yet, spiritually speaking, I would submit that getting a daily checkup from “Doctor Jesus” is a really good idea. Like the song says, “Prone to wander, Lord I feel it. Prone to leave the one I love.”

If we aren’t intentionally leaning into Jesus then unintentionally, we tend to drift away from Him. This happens to us every single day, does it not?

Kudos to my daughter Sally who has engaged me in a Summer Bible reading program in the book of Revelation. We’re going through a study that was created by a ministry called “Through the Word.” It’s available on the YouVersion app and I love it because it is quick and powerful. Each day she and I listen to a five minute devotional, read a passage from Revelation and then “sound off” by putting whatever comes to mind in a comment or two. We post it on the app. She can see what I’ve posted and I can see what she’s posted. It’s fun to read each other’s post to see what “big idea” we were left with. It feels like we’re doing a bible study in the same room together and we live apart. There’s accountability and it’s so easy. The entire exercise takes about 10 minutes a day and it has been a great blessing to me.

As Zig Ziglar used to say, spending a few minutes each day in God’s Word is a a great way to get a “Check Up from the Neck Up” and jump start your morning.

So with a large part of summer vacation behind us, are you doing anything to stay “spiritually healthy?” If busy days have left you dry, I hope you’ll consider doing a Bible reading program. Start out with a simple one. And while you’re at it, why not invite one of your besties to join you?

Something to think about.
