Last night I was talking to our 11 year old daughter Kate, and she told me that the countdown had begun. Just three weeks until she goes back to school! To be honest, she wasn’t all that excited about it. We’ve had a fun summer, and while she will adjust just fine, the prospect of hitting the books again wasn’t all that appealing to her.
This is a time of year when many of us are planning for the unknown. It could be the first year of middle school like my daughter, or perhaps sending a child off to college. Maybe your unknown is in the results from an upcoming doctor’s appointment or wondering how you will provide for your family now that you have lost your job. The unknown can come into our lives in many ways, and I think it’s natural to feel afraid in those moments. No matter what you are facing today, though, God loves you and the Bible reminds us that we don’t need to fear. Here are just a few examples:
Isaiah 41:10 – “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
Joshua 1:9 – “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
John 14:27 – “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
Whether the unknown you are facing is great or small, I hope you find comfort in the reminder that God is in control and He has promised to be with you every step of the way. It’s our prayer that you’re reminded of God’s unconditional love for you each time you listen to Life 101.9.
