During a normal month of August, the Life 101.9 team could typically be found catching our breath after a busy summer of concerts and events around Eastern Iowa.  As you know, this summer has been a lot different.  The COVID-19 pandemic cancelled literally every event were planning to participate in this year.  While it has looked quite a bit different than we hoped, we still have some great things to look back on from Life 101.9’s summer of 2020.

As spring was coming to an end, our team realized that something that was a staple of summertime in Eastern Iowa would not be happening for most – Vacation Bible School.  While large group gatherings were unable to take place, we wanted to give families an opportunity to have fun together and grow closer to Jesus.  With this in mind, Life 101.9’s Virtual Summer Camp arrived at the end of June.  Each day of the week-long curriculum provided a devotional, along with craft and game ideas all packaged in an online format that families could work through at their own pace.  Hundreds of families in Eastern Iowa participated in Life 101.9 Summer Camp!  If yours was one of them, we hope it was a fun highlight for you this year.

Life 101.9’s Cards for Kids has become an annual tradition in Eastern Iowa.  Each summer, we are so grateful to partner with you to provide gift cards for families with a child receiving care at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.  These families are going through so much, and coming alongside them to provide a meal or a tank of gas means so much to them.  This need doesn’t go away during a global pandemic, and we are so thankful for the many friends who got involved this year.  When everything was totaled up, Life 101.9 listeners donated $5,670 worth of gift cards!  I know the families who receive them will be so grateful for your generosity.

2020 has been a challenging year in many ways so far, and may continue to deliver some ups and downs over the next few months.  While we don’t know what the future holds, I’m so thankful that we serve the one who holds the future.  Whatever comes our way, we can trust that He will be with us every step of the way.

In Christ,

Matt Deane
