Father John Haugen goes above and beyond in his ministry to the five parishes under his care, serving a vast 450-mile radius in our part of the state. Through his weekly homilies, he not only gives us hope but also challenges us to reflect on our actions, reminding us of God’s deep love for us, as we are created in His image. Father John encourages us to not simply attend church but to embody the church in our daily lives, reaching out to family, neighbors, and the community. He continually inspires us to step beyond our comfort zones, urging us to serve others as God calls us to do. He is a remarkable person who makes each and every one of us feel seen–from the little ones to those who are homebound or in nursing homes. His inclusive message of faith welcomes all, regardless of their religious background. Father John is dedicated to making our pastorate stronger and more vibrant and vital within our community, helping us realize the importance of living and sharing our faith with everyone.
Scott Hamilton is one of the most recognized male figure skating stars in the world, winning four World Championships and Olympic gold in 1984. He is a three-time cancer survivor, television broadcaster, motivational speaker, and more. Scott says failure is the thing that has fueled much of his success. God used the challenge of Scott’s journey with cancer to get his attention and to grab his heart.
Cindy Brinker Simmons opens up about her journey through grief, and not staying stuck in it. Losing her mother, tennis legend Maureen Connolly, to cancer at a young age, Cindy thought God hated her, but eventually found that God loved her deeply. She shares how this profound spiritual transformation gave her strength to face further hardships, including her husband’s cancer battle. Cindy emphasizes the importance of choosing joy amidst adversity, building supportive relationships, and turning grief into purpose. As the founder of Wipe Out Kids Cancer, Cindy reflects on how her trials sharpened her focus on helping others, reminding us that even in life’s darkest moments, we can find restoration and hope. In her book, Restored: Reconnecting Life's Broken Pieces, she explores how God uses trials to refine us for a greater purpose.
John Lumgair is a director at http://QuirkyMotion.com, where he makes animation and illustrations to spark thoughts, laughter and imagination. John is an artist in the world, but not of it. John is a storyteller and digital animator on a project called "Jazz Cow". Though "Jazz Cow" is not a Christian show, it has many Christians on the project, and speaks to things inherent to the experience of God's creation, encouraging us to go against the algorithm of life brought on by "technocratic leaders". John talks about what it's like to feel a calling to be an artist. Maybe you feel a calling to be used by God in the world of art. Maybe God is using you already in the art world.
